Our History
The African American Genealogy Interest Group (AAGIG) was formed on October 28, 1995 by a group of persons who found common interest in researching their ancestors.  In January, 2016, we became a part of the National Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. (AAHGS) based in Washington, DC. We felt our association with such a highly regarded organization as AAHGS would continue our mission while expanding benefits to our group and the community.

Our Mission
The Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. (AAHGS) strives to preserve African-ancestored family history, genealogy, and cultural diversity by teaching research techniques and disseminating information throughout the community.

Our primary goals are to promote scholarly research, provide resources for historical and genealogical studies, create a network of persons with similar interests, and assist members in documenting their histories.
